Writing in kindergarten starts with and ends with the joy of expressing ourselves in the written form. My number one goal is for all my children is to learn how exciting it is to organize letter and sounds into words and words into sentences...then sentences into meaningful messages of communication.
We start with learning our letters and sounds. This will be done using Wake County's program, "LetterLand".
Your child will be using techniques taught to use sounds and label pictures.
(Example: picture of a cat and label it with the letter c)
Then he/she will be listening for more sounds in the word. Typically the ending sound. (Example: cat = ct)
Your child will be learning sight words. I will be giving a list out weekly for the children to learn. (Example: like, can, me, etc.)
As they become more confident they will be able to write sentences. (Example: I see a ct.)
Those sentences turn into messages. (Example: I see a brown ct. He is soft and little. I love that my mom let me have a ct.)
For those of you who want to see the objectives as they appear on the Wake County Website, please go to the reading tab. It is a little "heavy", but I wanted it available to you.
